Frequently Asked Questions
Petrochemical Alloy FAQWhich alloy should I specify for wet chloride and mixed-acid service?
Hastelloy C-276 (ASTM B575 / B574 / B622, PREN ≥55) covers wet chloride and mixed-acid streams; Hastelloy C22 (PREN ≥65) is the better pick for oxidizing media such as FGD scrubbers. Both carry NACE MR0175 qualification.
What do you supply for sulfuric and phosphoric acid equipment?
Incoloy 825 (UNS N08825) to ASTM B423 / B163 for sulfuric acid coolers and phosphoric acid evaporator tubes — good in sulfuric acid up to about 50°C. Move to C-276 for hotter service or hydrochloric-bearing streams.
Which grade for ethylene furnace and reformer tubes?
Solution-annealed Incoloy 800H (UNS N08810) to ASTM B407, the standard for ethylene furnace and reformer tubes; Incoloy 800HT where higher creep-rupture strength is required by design temperature.
